Fans of the Christian metal outfit, Underoath, are already aware of two things: First, drummer Aaron Gillespie has a great singing voice. Second, Gillespie possesses a rare musical talent. These two facts have combined and the result in a new project, The Almost. “Southern Weather,” The Almost’s debut album shows that Gillespie hasn’t forgotten how to rock despite the album featuring markedly softer sound than Underoath. Following in the footsteps of other musical savants such as Billy Corgan, Prince, and Phil Collins, Gillespie plays every instrument on the album. Surprisingly, the songs do not suffer from lack of ideas and imput as they do at times with projects like this. The upcoming concert on June 9th at In the Venue gives you the chance to see these songs come to life as he performs them backed by his very capable band. Support will come from Emery, Envy On The Coast, and Army of Me.
