I follow a blog written by Against Me! singer/guitarist Tom Gabel called “I Feel Sick to my Stomach.” His latest post is an interesting look at the reaction to the recently released Guns and Roses album “Chinese Democracy.” Released 15 years after it was begun, the album was almost sure to disappoint critics and fans alike. Gabel makes the point that in order to really appreciate the record, one would first have to understand the manic, self-obsessed Axl Rose. He also makes an interesting contrast between “Chinese Democracy,” and Metallica’s “Death Magnetic.” The post makes for an entertaining and fascinating read, and be sure to read through the comments section as well as there are some interesting points and counterpoints made. Have you heard the albums he is discussing? What is your take?
