2008 is gone. It was a great year, and we are looking forward to an even better 2009. We already have some fantastic shows lined up, and here is a quick preview of our next four:

January 17, Kilby Court
I Remember (It’s Happening Again): A folk-rooted message song that recounts key events of World War II in the context of the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. “I don’t have a political agenda; I sing about things that matter to me personally. I wrote that song because of my relationship with my grandfather, and the issue of the war really hit home with me because of his experiences. I care about him, and I care about my friends who are overseas in the war, so the song is about the people involved in the war and less about making a political statement, even though those things are in there as well.”
January 22nd, The Urban Lounge
Backwater: Meat Puppets have been making rock music since the early 1980’s. They have influenced a great number of bands, and it is clear from this particular track that bands such as Dinosaur Jr., Nirvana, Pavement, and Soundgarden were big fans of thiers.
NOTH MISSISSIPPI ALLSTARS
January 27, The Urban Lounge
video: It’s all about the live performance with these guys, and this video is just a small sampling of the serious chops these guys possess. If you have not seen them perform, you need to clear your schedule on the 27th and make it happen. If you are in public or have swear-sensitive ears, note that there is an “f” word in the middle of this jam so you might want to enjoy it with headphones or not at all as the case may be.
January 28th, In the Venue
Till the End of Time: We dare you to watch this video and not smile and remember that a big reason why you loved “Little Miss Sunshine” is the stellar soundtrack provided by Devotchka.
